Following a dream of engines

As a woman following her motoring dream, the road ahead may be filled with obstacles and stereotypes to overcome. From learning how to navigate the mechanics of a car to breaking into a male-dominated industry, the journey is not always easy. However, with passion, determination, and a love for the open road, Bex defied that expectations and showed the world that they belong behind the wheel just as much as anyone else. Each mile driven is a testament to the strength and resilience of women who dare to chase their motoring dreams, proving that gender is no barrier to achieving greatness in the world of cars.

Today's empowering exclusive member blog is about Bex, read what she had to say.

I've been passionate about any sort of motor since childhood, after growing up in a family where the roar of engines was a constant soundtrack to our lives. Whether it was a digger, a tractor, a moped, a motorbike, the petrol strimmer, even the lawn mower! My parents have both been petrol heads and motorbike lovers for as long as I can remember, which meant I was introduced to the world of motoring at an early age.

As a child, I remember my mum getting a bright red V8 Jaguar for a company car, and being amazed and thinking it was possibly the coolest car I’d ever seen - and even more amazed that it was sat on our driveway. That feeling of accomplishment and excitement (despite having never driving the thing!) never left me, and I would go on to own many cars and motorbikes in my driving career.

I have learnt over the years that nothing is quite like the feeling of hitting the accelerator and feeling the rush of adrenaline as you push something to its limits. For me, driving isn't just about getting from point A to point B. It’s about the journey, the freedom, and the sheer joy of being behind the wheel of a machine built for the driving experience.

As I got older and as my finances got better, my goals got bigger, and the motors got more exciting. Along the road, I even got a motorbike and powerboat licence to make sure I could have fun on both land and sea. I've been fortunate enough to own some fantastic motors, from some fantastic brands like #Maserati, #Abarth, #Honda, #Kawasaki, Ford, and #Mercedes. Each has offered its own unique selling points, but I’ve always been drawn to the boldness of a car that makes a statement. That's why, when I came across my #Lotus Emira in yellow, I knew I had found my perfect car. It’s drop dead beautiful, fast, and stands out in a crowd, just like the cars I love to drive. My favourite part of driving my #Emira is watching kids faces change when I drive past. Some can’t pick their mouths off the floor, and I can see them asking their parents “what is it, what is it” or another common phrase I hear is “mum/dad, is that a #Ferrari?”.

Other than my Emira, I have a real soft spot for modern #supercars and hyper cars, which combine cutting-edge technology with raw power and looks to deliver an unparalleled driving experience. At car shows you will always find me looking at the likes of the Ferraris, the #Astons, the #McLarens, the #Koenigseggs, the #Bugattis, and other similar cars. I do also have a soft spot for admiring 90’s classics such as a Lancer or an Escort.

Why did I join #WomenInWheels

Joining Women in Wheels has been a fantastic way to connect with other women who share my passion for all things automotive. I'm excited to be part of a community that celebrates not just the cars themselves, but the freedom, excitement, and camaraderie that comes with being a true car enthusiast.
